Loud noises from your fridge? Buzzing, clicking, rattling sounds explained. What is normal and what needs repair in Uganda.
Refrigerators make some noise, but loud or unusual sounds indicate a problem. Here is what different noises mean and when to worry.
Buzzing sound: Usually normal compressor operation. If excessively loud, the compressor mounts may be loose.
Clicking sound: The compressor relay clicking on/off. Frequent clicking means the compressor is struggling - call a technician.
Rattling sound: Loose items inside or the fridge not being level. Check shelves and level the fridge.
Gurgling sound: Normal refrigerant flow. This is the sound of gas moving through the system.
Loud fan noise: The evaporator fan may be hitting ice buildup. Defrost the freezer completely.
Inverter fridges are significantly quieter than conventional fridges. If noise bothers you and your fridge is old, consider upgrading to an inverter model.
