Live prices from UGX 565,000, and the one question that settles it
A chest freezer and a fridge freezer are not two versions of the same thing. They solve different problems. A chest freezer holds frozen food for weeks. A fridge freezer keeps food cold day to day with a small frozen section. Buy the wrong one and you'll either run out of freezer space or pay for storage you never fill.
A chest freezer is a single deep box that is almost all freezer. A fridge freezer is a tall upright with a fridge section and a smaller freezer compartment, usually 20 to 30 percent of the total space. When you do the freezer maths, a 260 litre chest freezer gives you 260 litres of frozen space. A 270 litre double door fridge gives you roughly 70 litres of freezer space and 200 litres of fridge space.
That ratio is the whole decision. If most of what you store is frozen, the chest freezer wins on capacity for the same money. If you need daily milk, vegetables and leftovers kept cold, you'll want the fridge.

Chest freezers at Yoola start at UGX 565,000 for a 130 litre CHiQ and climb with size. A 260 litre sits around UGX 850,500 and a 940 litre Hisense at the top is UGX 3,219,500. All prices below are live from stock as of October 2026.
The sharpest value in the range is the 260 litre Chiq at UGX 850,500. You get roughly double the space of a 130 litre model for about UGX 285,500 more, and the running cost barely moves because a fuller freezer holds the cold better than an empty one.
Double door fridge freezers start at UGX 602,000 for a 110 litre CHiQ and rise with size and features. A 160 litre Hisense is UGX 824,000 and a 229 litre Hisense is UGX 935,000. Premium inverter models from Hitachi run from UGX 3.8 million into the 7 million range for the largest sizes.
Running cost comes down to how much power the unit draws and how long it runs. A 260 litre double door fridge freezer draws roughly 1.1 units a day. A chest freezer of similar size draws slightly less, because cold air doesn't spill out when you open a lid the way it does with an upright door.
At the ERA approved domestic average of UGX 779.4 per unit for the July to September 2026 quarter, a fridge freezer using about 1.1 units a day costs roughly UGX 25,700 a month before VAT. A 130 litre chest freezer drawing closer to 0.7 units a day costs about UGX 16,400 a month. ERA sets these tariffs quarterly, so the exact rate moves.
The bigger saving isn't the type. It's what a power cut does to your food. A chest freezer packed full stays frozen for one to two days if you keep the lid closed. An upright fridge freezer loses its cold in a few hours. For a home that loses power often, that difference is worth more than the monthly units.
Yoola stocks five solar powered DC chest freezers from ADH, sized 150 litre to 400 litre and priced from UGX 1,374,450 to UGX 2,044,350. These run directly from a solar panel and battery without an inverter, so they keep working when the grid is down. For a shop in a village, a farm, or a home off the main line, they remove the power cut problem entirely.
