Gas cooker vs electric cooker in Uganda comes down to three numbers: the upfront price, the monthly bill, and what happens when the power goes. Here are the real figures from yoola.ug, UEDCL, and current gas refill rates.

Then there is the gas itself. A 12.5kg cylinder refill costs about UGX 118,000 and lasts a family of four roughly two months. That is about UGX 59,000 a month. A new 12.5kg cylinder with its first fill runs about UGX 328,000, which is a one-off.
Electric cooking is cheaper to run than most Ugandans assume, but much more expensive to buy. A Geepas double infrared cooker is UGX 452,000. The Hisense 60cm ceramic hob is UGX 572,000. The running cost is where electric wins. ERA charges UGX 412 per unit for power used between the 81st and 150th unit each month, roughly half the standard rate of UGX 779.4. A single hotplate drawing 1.5 kW for two hours a day uses about 90 units a month. At the cooking tariff that is about UGX 37,000.
If your household already uses 80 units on lights, a fridge, and a TV, your cooking power lands in that cheaper band. A family that cooks heavy with an oven might use 120 to 150 units, or about UGX 49,000 to UGX 62,000 a month.
Gas wins on the sticker price at every tier. The cheapest gas stove is UGX 103,250. The cheapest electric option is UGX 452,000, more than four times more.

The short answer: gas for most homes, electric only when you must.
If you cook daily for a family, gas wins. It costs less upfront, it keeps working through load shedding, and it needs no voltage stabiliser. If you live in an apartment that bans gas cylinders, electric is your only option, and the cooking tariff keeps the monthly bill reasonable at about UGX 37,000 to UGX 62,000.
