Best Fridge Brands in Uganda: Which One Should You Buy?

Nine brands, real Yoola prices, and the one question that decides it for you

Best fridge brands in Uganda come down to three tiers, and Yoola currently stocks 136 fridges and freezers across nine brands. Hisense leads on volume with 35 models, ADH and CHiQ follow close behind, and Hitachi sits alone at the top on price. The brand that fits you depends on your budget band, not on which name sounds premium.

Which fridge brands can you actually buy in Uganda?

Nine brands have real stock on Yoola as of October 2026: Hisense, ADH, CHiQ, SPJ, Hitachi, TCL, Venus, Geepas and Samsung. That is up from the five or six names most Kampala shops carry, and it matters because two of the strongest value brands here, ADH and SPJ, are barely visible in walk-in retail.

Hisense is the volume leader with 35 models and the widest price spread, running from 356,000 for a 60 litre mini fridge to 5,738,000 for an 810 litre double door chiller. ADH covers 30 models and leans heavily on freezers. CHiQ has 27 and prices aggressively at the entry level.

Skip a brand entirely if it only has one or two models in stock. Samsung shows just two fridges right now, both chest freezers, and Panasonic and Electrolux have one each. Thin inventory means no fallback if you want a different size.

What price does each fridge brand actually start at?

Entry prices split the market cleanly. Hisense opens at 356,000, CHiQ and ADH sit just above at 363,500 and 522,500, and every premium brand starts above 3.8 million. Here is the full ladder from the live catalog, cheapest first.

One pattern isn't obvious until you line the numbers up. The brands competing on price, Hisense, CHiQ and ADH, all cluster their models between 356,000 and 1.3 million. The brands above 3.8 million, Hitachi in particular, aren't selling a better cooling system at that gap. They're selling capacity and finish. A Hitachi 320 litre bottom freezer at 3,805,000 costs more than a CHiQ 730 litre side-by-side at 3,646,000. You are paying for the badge and the inverter compressor, not the litres.

Is Hisense the best fridge brand in Uganda?

Hisense is the safest single answer because it covers every price band, from a 120 litre single door at 490,500 up to an 820 litre side-by-side at 3,635,990. No other brand gives you that range from one supplier, and no other brand has 35 models to pick between.

The value case is concrete. A Hisense 160 litre double door is 824,000 and a 229 litre double door is 935,000. That second one gives you 69 more litres for 111,000 shillings. For a Kampala family of four, that is the model to compare everything else against.

The catch is choice paralysis. With 35 models, two Hisense fridges can sit 200,000 shillings apart with almost identical descriptions. Check the litre figure and the door type before the brand name.

Which fridge brands are the best value in Uganda?

CHiQ and ADH are the two value winners, and they win in different ways. CHiQ undercuts everyone at the entry level: its 120 litre single door is 442,000 against the Hisense equivalent at 490,500, a saving of 48,500 shillings for the same size and job.

ADH goes the other way and wins on freezer capacity per shilling. Its 500 litre commercial chest freezer is 2,496,000. The Hisense 400 litre chest freezer is 1,226,500, so you pay roughly double for a quarter more capacity when you step up to the 500 litre class across brands. If you run a shop or a bar, buy the ADH.

SPJ sits between them. Its 120 litre single door is 488,500 and its 719 litre side-by-side frost-free is 3,424,500, which undercuts both the CHiQ 680 litre at 2,808,400 on a per-litre basis and the Hisense 820 litre at 3,635,990. For a large household that wants one big fridge, the SPJ is the quiet pick.

Are premium brands like Hitachi and Samsung worth it in Uganda?

Only if you need commercial-grade cooling or a specific brand part. The cheapest Hitachi on Yoola is a 320 litre bottom freezer inverter at 3,805,000, and its 850 litre top freezer reaches 7,382,500. Samsung sells just two fridges here, both chest freezers at 1,712,700 and 2,165,450, and no domestic fridge at all.

What you buy at that price is an inverter compressor and better build quality, which matters in a country where voltage swings. An inverter motor handles fluctuating supply more gracefully than a standard compressor, and that reduces the most common failure, a burnt control board. A stabiliser still helps either way and costs far less than a repair.

In practice, the premium premium is hard to justify for a home. A Venus 800 litre double door chiller at 4,770,500 is a commercial display unit, not a family fridge. If your need is a household fridge, the 800,000 to 1.6 million band covers it with room to spare, and the money left over buys a stabiliser and two years of power.

Which fridge brand should you buy in Uganda?

Match the brand to your budget band rather than to reputation. Under 600,000, buy CHiQ or Hisense for a single door and don't overthink it. From 600,000 to 1.6 million, Hisense, ADH and SPJ give you the best capacity for the money, and this is where most families should shop. Above 1.6 million, SPJ and CHiQ side-by-sides beat the premium brands on litres per shilling unless you specifically want an inverter compressor.

The running cost barely changes between brands. A domestic fridge pulls roughly 100 to 200 watts, which at the UEDCL fourth quarter 2026 rate of 779.4 shillings per unit works out to about 15,000 to 30,000 shillings a month for continuous running. UEDCL confirms the first 15 units each month cost 250 shillings, and units 81 to 150 drop to the 412 shilling cooking tariff, so the band your whole home sits in matters more than your fridge brand does.

Brand decides your purchase price and your repair options. It does not decide your power bill.
